In the Community
SPAR is truly vested in the well-being of our great community. Supporting Ward 4 District 2 of Calcasieu Parish, and serving as a complete sports and fitness venue as well as offering arts & culture through the Henning House and Brimstone Muesum.
Sulphur Parks & Recreation is governed by a Board of five Commissioners who are appointed by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. Three of the members are appointed from the three divisions of Sulphur with the other two members being appointed as at large representatives. Board members serve a rotating four year term and annually self-elect two members to serve as President & Vice-President. The Board oversees the establishment of regulations governing the parks, playgrounds and community center of the district and provides guidance to administration on the management, maintenance & operations of the facilities.
Opened in 2005, SPAR's Waterpark continued expansion projects have been a welcome addition to SWLA.
SPAR has been host to the Louisiana State High School Swim meets since 2006. The Aquatic Center has two indoor pools that are open year round.
